The ShipConnect engine was developed between 2002 and 2004 while Steve was CTO for Navis Logistics Network. ShipConnect is a cousin (derivitive work) to NavisConnect. Steve recommended that a prototype be developed which was completed in late 2005.
ShipConnect is a set of web based tools that give consumers and corporations easy access to a variety of shipping services. ShipConnect specializes in complex shipments where items need packaging, crating or special handling, however ShipConnect can handle almost anything. There are several ways to use ShipConnect:
The ShipConnect Portal was designed so an individual could register for an account and then obtain an estimate, order shipping services or track a job.
- Individual users could go directly to the ShipConnect web site, sign up for their personalized shipping portal and then go through a simple process to obtain an estimate, order shipping services and track job status.
Corporate users use ShipConnect's as a component of their shipping processes, from providing real time access to a variety of incoming freight purchases to placing real time calculators on web sites to facilitate the sales of merchandise in an online store.
